Our History

Comsen’s distinguished 40 year history in Australia andĀ overseas means it is recognised as a pioneer in the service pillar industry.

  • The Comsen range of electrical service equipment launched in Australia in 1981 (could be earlier). The name was an acronym creation from Common Sense.
  • Moulds for the Comsen modular system were manufactured in Melbourne.
  • Comsen products including C-Series and M-series had several owners for the first 9 years. The longest owner was Evans Deakins Industries (QLD Based ) via a division named Moulded Products International.
  • During this time frame head office for MPI was based in the USA which led to all moulds being exported to Chicago. Other models were also designed and manufactured from these moulds for sale in the USA, Canada and some European countries.
  • MPI Australia were required to ordered quantities of mouldings from Charles Industries. Models were assembled and marketed to the Caravan Park and Marina Industry in Australia.
  • Assembled models without electrics were also marketed and exported to over 20 countries around the world.
  • In August 1989 a buyout of the MPI Division was undertaken by a company consisting of senior Moulded Products International Management and a Sydney based sales agent as major shareholders.
  • MPI International was based at Nerang on the Gold Coast from 1988 until 1994.
  • Under the ownership of Greg Free the company was moved to Loganholme in Brisbane.
  • Following acquisitions and business direction changes Comsen (MPI) moulded products were then manufactured by HyPower and included in their pedestal range.
  • Scott McQuie purchased MPI in 2004 (Colonial Federation Constructions) and was successful in purchasing back the Comsen range of moulds to Australia in 2008.
  • All moulded modular product parts plus the new Extreme aluminium parts are now made in Brisbane. All service pillars are then manufactured and marketed from our Loganholme factory and office.
  • The Moulded Products International trading name was reverted back to the original Comsen at that time.
  • In 2013 Scott married and his wife Lorraine Romeril-Smith took over as Managing Director in 2014.
